Industry Safety Training Initiative
In September 2008, NENAS will be offering basic industry safety ticket training in Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson and Fort St. John. Tickets will include: H2S Alive, WHMIS, Occupational First Aid Level 1, Transportation Endorsement and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.

COR/SECOR
The goal of this initiative is to assist and support aboriginal contractors and companies in the development of company safety plans to earn their COR or SECOR certification. NENAS has developed the “COR/SECOR Safety Plan Development Mentorship Program” to support aboriginal contractors and businesses throughout the entire process of developing and implementing their own safety plans thus assisting them in securing employment for their companies and community members. The next delivery will start on September 8, 2008.
Youth Career Fairs
This fun event will be held in three locations in northeast BC over four days. There will workshops, information booths, entertainment and PRIZES! The main focus will be career development, providing information and resources on the education that is required for today’s careers and the importance of staying in school. The goal of this initiative is to inform and educate aboriginal youth in northeastern BC about the vast number of career opportunities that are available to them.
Targeted participants for this initiative will be aboriginal youth, from 12 to 19 years of age, residing on or off reserve in northeast British Columbia.

Land Reclamation Training Program
This three-week program is the result of a partnership between Encana, NENAS, First Nations stakeholders, the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, and Northern Lights College. This program is intended to help meet the growing need for trained land reclamation operators and supervisors. Session 1 was delivered in Fort Nelson. Session 2 will start on September 8, 2008 in Fort St. John.
Northeast Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership (NEASEP)
The Aboriginal Skills and Employment Partnership is a nationally managed program that provides Aboriginal people with the skills they need to participate in economic opportunities such as northern mining, oil and gas, and forestry projects across Canada. The intent of this initiative is to provide Aboriginal participants with the skills development, support and training they need to strengthen links to sustainable employment opportunities. This three-year initiative will be delivered in partnership with Encana, Dunne-za Ventures, BP Canada Energy, Canadian Forest Products Ltd., Core Pipelines, D.R.E. and the Métis Nation of BC.
